Un disolvente o solvente es la sustancia que disuelve el soluto. El disolvente es el medio en el cual los solutos son mezclados o disueltos.[1] Un disolvente puede estar en cualquier estado físico, ya sea como sólido, como un líquido o como gas.[1] En el ejemplo de la sal y el agua, el agua es el disolvente. En el ejemplo de algunos tipos de plástico y la acetona, la acetona es el disolvente.
