Cyrus the Great also known as Cyrus II of Persia (Persian: کوروش بزرگ , Plantilla:Hebrew Name, Plantilla:Greek Name c. Born::600 BC or Born::576 BC-Died::530 BC) was the founder of the vast Achaemenid Empire. He was the conqueror and ruler of Babylon from 539 BC until his death in 530 BC.[1] He was the son of Cambyses, king of Anshan.[2]

Conquests and military campaigns

Under King Cyrus, Persia became a great power conquering its neighbors, the Medes, the Lydians and the Babylonian empire. Around 540 BC, Cyrus defeated Croseus bringing independence of Lydia to an end.[3]
